Comments:  We think this coin is well placed at AU 58 and that the obverse clearly shows that it cannot be any more than that.  But then that leads us to the reverse.  There is a raging debate among collectors who either like or dislike toned coins.  But for us this coin clearly shows that there is toning that is not maliciously introduced.  There is no reason to go to the effort to tone an AU 58 coin in this series as it would not enhance the value of the coin more than a few dollars.

All of the color is on the reverse of the coin and in this case it actually helps with analysis because it darkens the die cracks.    We believe this is early toning with blues, cyan, amber, and russet showing.  For the grade this is a nice example.
