VAM:  53 - Doubled 18, Pitted Ear

Comments:  VAM 53 is one of our discovery VAMs and is becoming one of the more common.  It is the placement of the doubling on the 18 that distinguishes this VAM from others.

 

This is not an overly attractive coin because it has started to tarnish and not attractively tone.  On the reverse there is a late die state crack that runs down through the mint mark and this has rapidly become one of the easily recognizable traits for this coin.

 

This example is also clashed and it will be interesting to see if a clashed versus unclashed version emerges.
