Comments:  This is a coin that you need to see in person to get the grade right because the photographs give one a different impression.  The obverse has some proof like qualities to he, but with abraded fields.  The reverse lacks the proof like fields, but is cleaner.  Maybe if you average it out it comes to the right grade.

 

The VAM 65 date doubling can be easily determined, especially the notched second 1.  The scribbles in the eagle's right wing are visible in our photographs if you know what to look for.  This coin is not fully struck above the ear or was flattened in storage so the gouge above the ear is not visible.
